The Southern Reach is a series of four novels by American author Jeff VanderMeer: Annihilation, Authority, Acceptance (all three from 2014) and Absolution (2024). Annihilation was adapted to cinemas by director Alex Garland and released in 2018.
Until the publication of Absolution, the series was commonly referred to as "Southern Reach Trilogy" and was also released as a single book, called Area X.
